What is Grubbs' test? What is it used for? Outliers: In a range of data, values that appear anomalous or lie in an abnormal distance from the other collected values are referred to as outliers.

4 Dec 2017 Statistical outliers were excluded from the data set after performing Grubb's test using GraphPad Prism QuickCalcs. All the data are expressed

Read an example with explanation . Note that the chi-square test is more commonly used in a very different situation -- to analyze a contingency table. I have old, rough, unpublished implementations of both Grubb's test and the Dixon's R10 test, though my Dixon code is limited to p = .05 and sample sizes of 3 to 30. I'll insert the Grubb's code below.

Description: The Grubbs test, also know as the maximum normalized residual test, can be used to test for outliers in a univariate data set. Note that this test assumes normality, so you test the data for normality before applying the Grubbs test. Grubbs test detects one outlier at a time. GraphPad QuickCalcs (Grubbs test) was used to determine statistical outliers, and a t test was used to compare mean insulin levels between high-fat (HF)– and low-fat (LF)–fed mice. Statistical significance was defined as P <0.05.

Grubbs' test (Grubbs 1969 and Stefansky 1972) is used to detect a single outlier in a univariate data set that follows an approximately normal distribution.

A t test compares the means of two groups. For example, compare whether systolic blood pressure differs between a control and treated group, between men and women, or any other two groups.

If the investigated sample has some other, especially assymmetric distribution (e.g. lognormal) then these tests give false results!

Meaning, if a data point is found to be an outlier, it is removed from the data set and the test is applied again with a new average and rejection region. This process is continued until no outliers remain in a data set. Grubbs catalysts are a series of transition metal carbene complexes used as catalysts for olefin metathesis. They are named after Robert H. Grubbs, the chemist who supervised their synthesis.

En enkel metod för att testa om ett (enda) observerat värde avviker är Grubbs test (Grubbs & Beck 1972), detta är ett univariat test, alltså ett test som bara ta hänsyn till en variabel i taget - här finns mer information om multivariata outlier test. Grubbs’ Test is a statistical test that can be used to identify the presence of one outlier in a dataset. To use this test, the dataset you’re analyzing should be approximately normally distributed and, ideally, should have at least 7 observations.
